ReincarnateIn this installation I have recreated a hospital setting. In the first chamber, titled Disease, are corroded lungs constricted in steel cages. The metal frame, to which damaged lungs are tenuously tied, represents a body form - my body. The x-rays evidence the damage of Cystic Fibrosis. Mirrored across the chamber is a second set of lungs. Here the body is absent, and only the disease remains. The glow of the light boxes is extinguished. In the second chamber, titled Drowning, lying prone in an increasing pool of fluids, is a collection of slowly eroding figures. Gradually, the physical integrity of these figures will collapse and fail, despite the possible efforts of medical intervention. Observing from the foot of the bed, the conflicting beauty and dismay of disintegration is poignant. In the final chamber, titled Resilience, a video is projected showing indistinguishable matter forming into a complete, and healthy, human.
